5Dia Beacon

A former Nabisco box-printing factory turned into one of the more unusual art spaces in the Northeast — enormous rooms holding large-scale works that need the space to make sense. Dan Flavin's fluorescent light corridors, Richard Serra's massive steel curves. You don't need to be an art person to find it strange and interesting. $15 gets you as long as you want.

6Beacon Flea Market

A low-key outdoor flea on Henry Street where vendors set up a rotating mix of furniture, vintage clothing, records, and assorted objects. No pressure to buy anything — it's more about the browsing than the score. Beacon's walkable enough that this slots easily into the tail end of the afternoon.

Multiple vendors under one roof in downtown Beacon, so you can eat whatever sounds right without committing to a full sit-down dinner. Pizza, tacos, and a few other options depending on who's set up. Good for a relaxed end to a day spent on your feet, and the room has enough energy to make it feel like dinner rather than fast food.

3Overlook Mountain House ruins

A 5-mile out-and-back trail from Woodstock climbs through forest to the crumbling shell of a Victorian hotel that never quite finished being built. The ruins are strange and satisfying — roofless stone walls open to the sky, a fire tower at the top with long views across the valley. Bring water. The trail is steady but not technical, and the payoff at the top makes the climb worth it.

4Saugerties Lighthouse

A half-mile walk through a nature trail leads out to a lighthouse sitting where the Esopus Creek meets the Hudson. It's an odd, quiet place — maintained but not crowded, with benches on the dock and a good stretch of river to look at. The walk in through the preserve is worth as much as the destination.

5Falling Waters Preserve

A small nature preserve south of Saugerties with a trail that drops down to a waterfall and then continues to a Hudson River overlook. Short enough to be casual, interesting enough to feel like it was worth stopping. The river view at the end has good late-afternoon light.

6BackBar

Hudson's Warren Street turns up again for the last meal — BackBar is a narrow, low-lit room doing Asian-inflected small plates and natural wine. The menu moves around, the portions are sized for sharing, and the space has a particular quality of feeling like a place that knows what it's doing without announcing it. A good landing spot for the end of two loose days.

7The Hereafter

A bar at the edge of Hudson's main corridor — darker, a little more tucked away, with a good selection of local spirits and a crowd that feels like it belongs to the town rather than passing through it. A fitting place to wind down a trip that moved at its own speed.
