Slow mornings, rice-terrace walks, massages you didn’t have to earn, and nowhere to be by any particular time. Bali at recovery pace.

Ubud rewards the traveler who came to breathe, not to conquer. This plan leans into that — slow mornings, beautiful surroundings, and a pace that lets the place actually land.

Day 1
Theme

Arrive, settle, exhale

Morning

Start with breakfast at Monsieur Spoon Ubud, a French-ish bakery on Jl. Hanoman with good pastries and strong coffee — easy, low-effort, around $5–8/person. Then wander the immediate neighborhood on foot: the side streets off Jl. Hanoman are lined with offerings, warungs, and glimpses of compound life that the main road glosses over.

Afternoon

Head to Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary for a gentle walk through the forest paths — macaques, ancient temple gates, and dense green canopy all in a 20-minute stroll. Entry is around $5/person. Afterwards, decompress at the hotel, which deserves proper appreciation on arrival day.

Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Evening

Dinner at This Is Bali - Balinese Food & Desserts on Jl. Goutama — a small spot doing proper Balinese cooking at warung prices, around $8–12/person. Then an early night. You'll want the rest.

Jl. Goutama No.2, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Why this fits: you came to slow down and the trip works best when arrival day doesn't push you — one beautiful walk, one honest meal, and you're set up for everything after.
Day 2
Theme

Rice terraces and a morning ridge

Morning

The Campuhan Ridge Walk is best done before 8am while it's still cool and relatively quiet — a narrow path along a spine of land with valley views on both sides, free to walk, takes about an hour at a comfortable pace. Grab breakfast after at Seniman Coffee on Jl. Sri Wedari, one of the better specialty roasters in town, around $5–10/person.

Jl. Raya Ubud, Kelusa, Kec. Payangan, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia
Seniman Coffee · coffee shop
Jl. Sri Wedari No.5, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Afternoon

Make your way up to Tegallalang Rice Terrace — the terracing is genuinely arresting, especially with midday light hitting the paddies. There's a small entry contribution of around $2. Take your time, find a quieter section of the trail, and let the landscape do the work. Return via the main road — ojek (motorbike taxi) rides are cheap and easy.

Tegallalang Rice Terrace · scenic spot
Jl. Raya Tegallalang, Tegallalang, Kec. Tegallalang, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80561, Indonesia
Evening

Dinner at Hujan Locale on Jl. Sri Wedari, an Indonesian restaurant focused on regional dishes from across the archipelago — more considered than a warung but comfortably priced, around $15–20/person. It's a great-looking room too.

Hujan Locale · indonesian restaurant
Jl. Sri Wedari No.5, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Why this fits: you want days that move without rushing — an early walk earns you the rest of the afternoon at an easy pace, and the landscape is beautiful enough to be the whole point.
Day 3
Theme

Temple water and afternoon stillness

Morning

Take a ride out to Pura Tirta Empul in Tampaksiring, a Hindu water temple built around natural spring pools where Balinese pilgrims come to purify. Arrive early — by 7:30am the light is soft and the crowds are thin. Sarong required (available to borrow at the gate). Entry around $3/person.

Afternoon

On the way back, stop at Kanto Lampo Waterfall — a fan-shaped cascade that drops over a curved basalt wall into a shallow pool, extremely photogenic, and easy enough to reach with a short walk. Entry around $2. Back in Ubud, give yourself the rest of the afternoon: a nap, a book, a slow wander.

Jl. Kanto Lampo Waterfall, Beng, Kec. Gianyar, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80513, Indonesia
Evening

Drinks and dinner at Cantina Rooftop Restaurant | Ubud out in Sayan — rooftop setting above the valley, good cocktails, a menu that swings between Indonesian and Mediterranean. Budget around $20–28/person. The light at dusk from up here is the kind of thing you'll think about afterward.

Why this fits: you're drawn to beautiful, meaningful places and you want time to absorb them — a temple at dawn and a waterfall in the afternoon is plenty for one day, with room to breathe around it.
Day 4
Theme

Art, markets, a quiet afternoon

Morning

Browse Ubud Art Market on Jl. Raya Ubud while it's still cool — batik, silverwork, carved wood, hand-painted pieces, all at negotiable prices. The haggling is light and good-natured. Then cross the street to Ubud Palace for a look at the carved gates and open pavilions — free to enter, beautifully maintained.

Afternoon

Spend a couple of hours at Neka Art Museum on the Campuhan road — a terraced hillside complex with a strong collection of Balinese and Indonesian painting, organized well enough to actually understand what you're looking at. Entry around $4/person. Then head back to the hotel for the golden hour.

Neka Art Museum · art museum
G753+2F7, Jl. Raya Sanggingan Jl. Raya Campuhan, Kedewatan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Evening

Dinner at Casa Luna on Jl. Raya Ubud, a long-running Ubud institution that does Balinese home cooking with warmth and consistency — $12–18/person. Then a drink at Night Rooster on Jl. Goutama Sel., a small bar with a good cocktail list and no pretension. Low-key ending to a well-balanced day.

Night Rooster · bar

Why this fits: you notice the aesthetic details others walk past — the art museum and the palace both reward that kind of attention, and the market is the kind of place that looks as good as it feels.

Waterfall day trip

Morning

Breakfast at Kakiang Bakery & Cafe on Jl. Raya Pengosekan — a relaxed neighborhood spot with decent pastries and coffee, around $5–8/person. Then head out early to Tukad Cepung Waterfall near Tembuku — the falls are inside a cave-like canyon, and when sunlight cuts through the opening in the morning it makes the whole chamber glow. A short scramble down to get there, manageable and worth it. Entry around $3.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall · tourist attraction

Afternoon

Return through Gianyar town and stop at a warung for a late lunch — look for nasi campur (a plate of rice with rotating Balinese sides), typically $2–4/person and usually excellent. Back in Ubud, the afternoon is yours — rice field walk, hotel pool, a slow coffee. The morning was the event.

Evening

Dinner at Bebek Tepi Sawah in Peliatan — a restaurant built out over rice paddies, known for crispy duck and a pretty setting, around $15–22/person. It's the kind of place that rewards arriving just before dark.

Bebek Tepi Sawah · indonesian restaurant
banjar teges Jl. Raya Teges, Peliatan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Why this fits: you want natural beauty over checklists — one spectacular waterfall, a proper Balinese lunch, and an evening with a view is a perfect Ubud day without ever feeling like it was too much.

Last morning, soft departure

Morning

Breakfast at Dough Darlings Ubud on Jl. Raya Pengosekan — a cafe doing great coffee and baked goods in a relaxed space, around $6–10/person. Then a final walk through the Rice Fields Walk off Jl. Penestanan — narrow paths between paddies, quiet compounds on either side, a genuinely good way to spend a last hour in Ubud.

Afternoon

Swing by Agung Rai Museum of Art on Jl. Raya Pengosekan for a final look at Balinese art if you have time before departure — or simply stay in the neighborhood, find a shaded warung, and let the last afternoon be unhurried. Entry around $4.

Agung Rai Museum of Art · art museum
Jl. Raya Pengosekan Ubud, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Evening

A farewell dinner at Melali Ubud on Jl. Sri Wedari — a well-put-together Indonesian spot with honest prices and a room that feels considered, around $12–18/person. No big finale needed. The trip was the finale.

Melali Ubud · restaurant
Jl. Sri Wedari No.58, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
Why this fits: the best last days mirror the trip's feeling rather than trying to cram in everything you didn't do — this one stays true to the pace you kept all week.

What to pack

  • A light linen or cotton scarf (doubles as a sarong for temple visits — far better than borrowing the scratchy ones at the gate)
  • One elevated outfit: Ubud has enough beautiful open-air restaurants that you'll want to look slightly pulled-together for at least one evening
  • A reusable water bottle — refill stations are common and staying hydrated in the humidity matters more than you think
  • Flip-flops you can actually walk in — cobbled lanes, rice field mud, and temple steps all in the same day
  • A small dry bag or zippered tote for waterfall days when your phone needs to stay dry

Worth knowing

  • Ubud in high season (July–August, Christmas–New Year) means the rice terraces and popular waterfalls are crowded by mid-morning — the plan already leans early for most of these, but if you sleep in, the magic dims considerably. The walk at Campuhan and the temple at Tirta Empul especially reward a 7am start.
  • The instinct to squeeze in one more thing is real here — Ubud has an inexhaustible list of "you should also see..." options, and the trap is turning a restorative trip into a checklist. Trust the pace you set on day one.
